GSP Week 5 Birthday (July 17 – July 25)

Sunday the day before my birthday it was time to do something crazy! Skydiving! One last skype call, before I jumped out of an airplane at 18.000 ft/5.5 km. It is an amazing experience and I would do it again in a second!

Check the pictures and the video! In the evening we watched the launch of the SpaceX rocket with a bunch of space geeks!

The day after my skydiving experience it was the 18th of July, my birthday! The day was quite stressful because it was team registration day, I paired up with Sarah from Israel. Details about the project follow in a few weeks. For my birthday the class sang for me and celebrated with a Heineken San Fran city edition. On my birthday I also got my 3D printed head because I was the first to know the names of all the people, how cool!

On Tuesday everything went back to normal but the curriculum is now more focused on the team project. On Tuesday we had a legal session on how to set up your business and a stress test in order to see if your team works well together, we survived! The evening was about the future of food, several companies presented their vision. For instance, artificial shrimps, plant-based dairy, lab culture meat, protein sweeteners etc. etc.

On Wednesday we had a big data workshop, I learned how to work with R and how to leverage machine learning. Very interesting. On Thursday we had our last sessions before the 3.5 day weekend what really excites most people, on the same day we also received our 23andme kits. Everybody spat in the tubes and the tubes are shipped to the lab where they will scan our genes to detect higher risks of cancer and other risk factors.

On Friday the day finally came where we left the SU campus and headed for Yosemite National Park for 3 days! I went camping with 2 Americans, 1 Brit and 1 Italian. We all experienced Camping American Style, meaning eating junk food 24/7. Besides that, I really enjoyed Yosemite, especially on Sunday where I got to summit Half Dome!

On Monday we had to return to normal again. Everybody had sharpened their axe during the weekend, ready to slay some wood during the week! Peter Diamandis visited SU again, so we got a chance to pitch some ideas and gain some feedback. On Tuesday we had a prototyping session from the guy who prototyped the first 150 Google Glass prototypes and in the afternoon and evening we had a session about are we living in a simulation or not, the meaning of life and the purpose of existence. It lasted  till 05.30 am 🙂
